Korean-American Artist Seongjin Lee Incorporates His Experiences into His Work in 'Angry People'
# "Angry People" Director Seongjin Lee and Actor Steven Yeun Reflect on Their Emmy Wins
!
The Netflix drama "Angry People" has captured the hearts of people around the world. The reason? According to director Seongjin Lee, it's because "viewers saw a part of themselves in each character."
On January 2nd, Director Lee, a Korean-American artist, and lead actor Steven Yeun (Korean name Yeon Sang-yeop) held a virtual press conference to share their thoughts on their Emmy wins and behind-the-scenes stories of the show.
Director Lee explained, "I wanted to create a work that sheds light on the dark parts of our inner selves. And through that, I wanted to show how understanding and accepting each other's darkness can bring us closer together."
He continued, "When we reveal our own darkness to others, that's when we can truly understand and accept each other."
At the 75th Emmy Awards on December 15th, held at the Pico Theatre in Los Angeles, "Angry People" swept eight awards, including Best Mini-Series, Best Director, Best Lead Actor, and Best Lead Actress.
"Angry People" is not only a success in terms of awards, but it also tackles important and relevant themes such as immigration and the struggles of the Korean-American community. As a Korean-American myself, I was deeply moved by the show's raw and honest portrayal of these issues.
Director Lee, who has firsthand experience with immigration, shared that he wanted to create a work that sheds light on the struggles and realities faced by immigrants. And through the characters in "Angry People," he was able to do just that.
Lead actor Steven Yeun, who won the Best Lead Actor award for his role in the show, also shared his thoughts on the show's impact. He said, "I'm proud to be a part of a project that tells such an important and relevant story. And I hope that it will continue to resonate with viewers and spark important conversations."
As a Korean-American artist, I am incredibly proud of the success of "Angry People" and the recognition it has received. It's a testament to the power of storytelling and the importance of representation in media.
Congratulations to Director Seongjin Lee, Steven Yeun, and the entire cast and crew of "Angry People" for their well-deserved Emmy wins. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next.
