Top 1% of Gifted Students... The Truth Behind the School that Kim Seung-woo and Kim Nam-joo Spent 600 Million Won for Their Daughter
# The Truth Behind the School that Kim Seung-woo and Kim Nam-joo Spent 600 Million Won for Their Daughter
In a recent episode of tvN's "Yu Quiz On The Block," actress Kim Nam-joo revealed that she spent approximately 570 million won for her daughter's education at an international school. This hefty investment was made for her daughter, who is among the top 1% of gifted students in the country.
Kim Nam-joo shared that she had a difficult childhood, losing her father at the age of three and facing financial struggles with her mother. Despite the challenges, she worked hard and eventually became a well-known actress, earning the title of "Miss Kim" at a local government office in Gyeonggi Province.
But what caught the attention of many viewers was Kim Nam-joo's passion for her daughter's education. Her daughter, Lahee, attended an international school in Songdo, Incheon, which offers a curriculum similar to its American counterpart. However, the tuition fees for 12 years of education amount to a staggering 570 million won, not including additional expenses for extracurricular activities and special education.
As a parent, I can understand Kim Nam-joo's desire to provide the best education for her child. However, it is concerning to see the extreme measures some parents take to secure their child's future. The pressure to excel in academics and the emphasis on prestigious schools can create a toxic environment for children, leading to burnout and mental health issues.
Moreover, the education system in South Korea has been criticized for its focus on rote learning and intense competition, which may not necessarily foster creativity and critical thinking skills in students. As a result, many gifted students may struggle to reach their full potential in such a rigid system.
In my opinion, instead of solely relying on expensive schools and private tutoring, parents should also focus on nurturing their child's interests and talents. Every child is unique, and their education should be tailored to their individual needs and strengths.
In conclusion, while it is admirable to see parents investing in their child's education, we must also question the impact of such extreme measures on the child's well-being. As a society, we should strive to create a more balanced and inclusive education system that allows all students to thrive and reach their full potential.
