Korean actor Choi Woo-sik recently opened up about his efforts and thoughts on portraying a killer in the Netflix original series "Squid Game."
On October 14th, Choi Woo-sik sat down for an interview at a café in Seoul's Jongno district to discuss various topics related to the hit series.
"Squid Game" follows the story of an ordinary man who accidentally starts killing people and the detective who relentlessly pursues him. Choi Woo-sik plays the role of Lee Tae-young, a college student who awakens his ability to distinguish between good and evil after committing a murder.
After the series was released, Choi Woo-sik received a lot of attention and messages from people around him. He shared, "I received more messages after the release of 'Squid Game' than I did after 'Parasite.' It's interesting to see people's reactions. It feels good to be able to greet people through my work after a long time."
Choi Woo-sik has previously mentioned that the film "The Host" changed his life. He said, "Recently, I received a text from the director of 'The Host.' He said that he could see glimpses of my previous characters, the genius in 'The Host' and Ki-woo in 'Parasite,' in my performance. I didn't even realize it, but my past characters and my old self seem to come out when I act."
He continued, "Out of all my films, 'The Host' showed my true self the best. Ki-woo and Tae-young are also me. How can I show them differently? I've been thinking about this for 10 years. I'm grateful that people have been watching me in a positive light. I will continue to show different sides of myself and make sure that viewers can watch without any discomfort."
In the end, Choi Woo-sik shared his own thoughts, saying, "I didn't become an overnight success. I will continue to do what I have been doing for the past 10 years. I will keep moving forward and doing my best." It's clear that Choi Woo-sik is determined to keep growing as an actor and show different sides of himself to the audience.
