KBS's Explanation Falls Flat Original Author of 'Goryeo-Goryeo War' Criticizes Drama Production Team Strongly

As the controversy surrounding the unrealistic plot and development of KBS's historical drama 'Goryeo-Goryeo War' continues, the original author has once again criticized the production team.

On the afternoon of the 23rd, author Gil Seung-soo of the novel 'Goryeo-Goryeo War' opened up on his Instagram, saying, "I saw KBS's explanation report. It's not even funny." He added, "Since PD Jeon Woo-sung first revealed the internal progress, I think I can now openly share my thoughts without any burden."

He continued, "When I first joined in June 2022, there was definitely a different direction from my novel. That direction was to make Queen Cheonchu the main villain, causing conflict with King Hyunjong and bringing in the invasion of the Goryeo dynasty." He then expressed his surprise, saying, "I was shocked and said, 'There's already a KBS drama called 'Queen Cheonchu,' and if they go in that direction, there's a possibility of another 'Joseon Guma War' incident happening." As a result, Queen Cheonchu was abandoned, but in the end, the story was somewhat revived through Queen Wonjeong."

The original author also shared his criticism of the drama on his blog, responding to comments from netizens. He wrote, "The scriptwriter is forcing himself to write his own work," "It's really pathetic," "I hope the writer will come to his senses from next week," and "The scriptwriter has gone crazy writing whatever he wants."

It's disappointing to see the drama deviate from the original story, as many viewers have also expressed their disappointment on the KBS viewer petition page, pleading for the drama to stick to the original plot.

In my opinion, it's important for a historical drama to stay true to the original story and not distort historical facts for the sake of entertainment. I hope the production team will take this into consideration and make necessary changes to improve the drama. As a fan of the original novel, I was looking forward to seeing it come to life on screen, but unfortunately, it seems to have fallen short. I hope the remaining episodes will be able to redeem itself and do justice to the original story.
