On the 17th, Judge Jeon Beom-sik of the Seoul Southern District Court sentenced KBS producer Kim and two other production team members to a fine of 10 million won each for violating the Animal Protection Act. KBS, which was also charged under the joint liability provision, was fined 5 million won.

The judge stated, "Considering the pain and suffering the horses endured, as well as the social repercussions after the broadcast, the guilt of the defendants cannot be taken lightly." He also added, "There are alternative methods such as using stuntmen or creating similar models to depict a fall, or using computer graphics."

He further explained, "It is not apparent that the defendants had no other choice but to use methods that could potentially harm the horses, such as using methods with lower accuracy or higher production costs."

 

However, the judge also took into account the fact that the defendants have admitted to the basic facts and have since adopted new guidelines for filming under KBS's supervision when determining the sentence.
