[By Mediment News Reporter Wonwook Jung] Former professional baseball player Soo-geun Jung has once again been charged with domestic violence against his wife.

On the 21st, the Namyangju Police Station announced that Jung had been charged with assault against his wife, A, on the morning of the 20th at their home while under the influence of alcohol. A had reported the incident and the police arrested Jung at the scene. Although Jung denied the charges during the police investigation, they deemed his statement to lack credibility and released him with a warning.

This is not the first time Jung has been involved in a domestic violence case. Last month, he was charged with assaulting a man he had just met at a drinking session. In December of last year, Jung had gotten into an argument with B at a bar and hit him on the head twice with a beer bottle, causing severe injuries. B is currently receiving treatment and has expressed a desire for Jung to face strong punishment. Despite Jung's apologies and pleas for forgiveness, B is still suffering from the aftermath of the incident.

 

During the initial police investigation earlier this month, Jung had admitted to his actions and the case has been handed over to the prosecution for further investigation.

Jung joined the OB (now Doosan) team in 1995 and played for 15 seasons, recording a batting average of .280, 1493 hits, 24 home runs, 450 RBIs, 866 runs, and 474 stolen bases, making him one of the best outfielders in the KBO league. He was also the first player to win the stolen base title for four consecutive years from 1998 to 2001 and received the Golden Glove award for outfielders twice.

However, Jung's career has been marred by multiple disciplinary actions due to his alcohol-related behavior. In July 2008, he was caught driving under the influence and was suspended from the league.

Domestic violence is a serious issue that should not be taken lightly. It is never acceptable to resort to violence, especially towards a loved one. As a society, we must take a stand against domestic violence and support the victims.
