"GoGeoJeonControversy: KBS Drama Sparks Conflict Between Original Author and Production Team

As the KBS2 50th anniversary special drama 'GoGeoJeonControversy' continues to air, controversy surrounding the show's portrayal of the original work has sparked a heated conflict between the original author and the production team. The drama, based on the historical novel 'GoGeoJeonControversy' by Gil Seung-soo, has been accused of distorting the original story and lacking historical accuracy.

The controversy came to light in the 16th episode, which aired on July 7th. Viewers were shocked to see the character Hyun Jong, played by Kim Dong-jun, recklessly riding his horse and falling off, covered in blood. Other scenes also raised eyebrows, such as Hyun Jong attempting to strangle Kang Gam-chan, played by Choi Soo-jong, and the show's portrayal of weak political power.

 

In response, Gil Seung-soo took to his social media on July 15th, stating, "I provided KBS with my original work and historical books, but they are using it to write their own script without my consent." He further expressed his dissatisfaction, saying, "It's not even entertaining or well-written."

As the controversy escalated, the production team, including director Jeon Woo-sung and writer Lee Woo-jung, emphasized that the drama and the original work are separate entities. They claimed that they had consulted with a new expert and conducted thorough research to ensure historical accuracy.

The conflict has also been dubbed as a 'truth-seeking battle'. Director Jeon Woo-sung stated, "We had a contract with Gil Seung-soo for his original work and consulted with him for some battle scenes. However, he refused to provide any further consultation, citing differences in the direction of storytelling." He added, "We have since found a new expert and are diligently working on the script and production."

As a fan of historical dramas, I am disappointed to see such a controversy surrounding 'GoGeoJeonControversy'. While I understand the importance of creative freedom, it is also crucial to respect the original work and historical accuracy. I hope that both parties can come to a resolution and deliver a well-crafted drama that does justice to the original story."
