Actor Oh Young-soo bows his head at the first trial verdict of 'Squid Game' sexual assault case today
# Actor Oh Young-soo Receives Suspended Sentence in 'Squid Game' Sexual Assault Case
!
Actor Oh Young-soo, who was accused of sexual assault, has been handed a suspended sentence in the first trial of the 'Squid Game' case.
On October 15, Oh appeared at the Suwon District Court's Seongnam Branch for the sentencing hearing. The court sentenced him to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered him to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment program.
The court stated, "The victim's diary entries and statements from counseling sessions after the incident are consistent with the details of the case, and her claims are believable and reflect her experience."
Oh Young-soo, whose real name is Oh Se-kang, was charged with sexually assaulting a woman, referred to as A, twice in 2017. He was accused of hugging A and kissing her on the cheek in front of her home while he was staying in a rural area for a theater performance.
The prosecution had requested a one-year prison sentence, stating that Oh had expressed his desire for young women in a distorted manner at a drinking gathering where A was present, and later sent her a text message apologizing but also making excuses by saying she reminded him of his daughter.
Oh gained popularity for his role as the "old man" in the hit Netflix series 'Squid Game' and became the first Korean actor to be nominated for a Golden Globe award in the TV category in 2022.
As a fan of 'Squid Game', I was deeply disappointed and saddened by the news of Oh's sexual assault case. It's disheartening to see someone who portrayed a kind and lovable character on screen be involved in such a heinous act in real life. I hope this verdict serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, and sexual assault should never be taken lightly. Let's continue to support and uplift the victims of sexual assault and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
