In a recent interview with Edaily, Kang Seungyeon, a rising star in the world of short-form content, shared her journey from aspiring idol to successful trot singer. With her powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence, Kang Seungyeon has captured the attention of many, including industry veterans such as Ju Hyunmi and Jang Yoonjeong.
Kang Seungyeon's introduction to the trot genre came in 2018 when she participated in KBS 1TV's "Nationwide Singing Contest." After winning the top prize in the Incheon Metropolitan City division, she received a love call from industry insiders and decided to pursue a career as a trot singer.

But before her foray into trot, Kang Seungyeon had dreams of becoming an idol. She honed her dancing skills and earned the title of "Short-form Goddess." However, due to difficult circumstances at her company, she was unable to debut as an idol.
Undeterred, Kang Seungyeon worked various part-time jobs while never giving up on her dream of becoming a singer. She shared, "My family was going through a tough time, and I couldn't rely on them for money. So, I worked at a pork belly restaurant, a hamburger joint, a cafe, and even did fitting modeling to save up for vocal lessons and continue pursuing my dream of becoming a singer."
One day, while walking her dog, Kang Seungyeon stumbled upon a banner for "Nationwide Singing Contest" at a local community center. Without hesitation, she applied to participate, choosing to sing "Azalea," a song her grandmother loved. She explained, "Due to the IMF crisis, my family was struggling, and I was raised by my grandmother. So, trot has always been a familiar genre to me."
Her fate was sealed when she entered the world of trot, and before her official debut, she gained experience by performing at various events. Her hard work and dedication paid off when she was chosen to join the cast of "Trot Show" alongside industry veterans Ju Hyunmi and Jang Yoonjeong.
